2026 Garlic Harvest Pre-Sale - Product Will Ship After Harvest/Drying in Mid August

Originating from the Abruzzo region of Italy, Rossa di Sulmona is an exceptionally rare and highly celebrated heirloom variety prized by gourmands. As a Creole variety, it belongs to the softneck family, but it behaves uniquely by consistently throwing up a beautiful, curling flower stalk (scape) in late spring.
This variety features brilliant, deep reddish-purple bulb skins that yield 10 to 12 plump, teardrop-shaped cloves arranged neatly in a single outer layer. Known for its incredible storage potential, it easily retains its firmness, color, and punchy flavor deep into the following year.

Rossa di Sulmona delivers a sharp, clean, and fiercely pungent heat when eaten raw, which quickly gives way to an intensely sweet, rich, and musky complexity when roasted or sautéed. It is an exceptional performer for growers looking to maximize both shelf-life and gourmet market appeal. This is the garlic that is used in the famous garlic braids from Sulmona Italy.

  • Garlic Type: Creole (Silverskin family / Softneck that behaves like a hardneck by producing scapes)
  • Flavor Profile: Pungent, sharp, and fiery when raw; intensely rich, sweet, and aromatic when cooked.
  • Bulb Size: Medium to Large with a tight, uniform shape.
  • Cloves Per Bulb: 10 to 12 fat cloves arranged neatly in a single outer ring.
  • Hardiness Zones: Highly adaptable; thrives in warm climates but performs beautifully in cold regions with winter protection.
  • Maturity: Late-season harvest (usually mid-to-late July).
  • Storage Life: Exceptional (easily stores for 9 to 12 months under ideal conditions).
